Wonderful Isles of Scilly (IoS)

Short blog due to lack of mobile broadband signal and lack of time.

Had pleasant time in Hugh Town on St Mary's yesterday morning, mooching & coffee-ing, then a lazy-ish afternoon on the boat, except that the boarding ladder broke so spent more than an hour repairing it (there's always something).  The spent an unpleasant evening and night due to the boat rolling heavily - although we were protected from the wind, the waves were coming in at right angles.  Now the seat cushion is gin-soaked as well as us.

Early this morning we came over the 'Tresco Flats' at just before high water with not much water under the keel (a few feet), following a zigzag route to avoid going aground - oh and this started in pouring rain and very poor visibility, tho luckily it lifted by the time we needed to eyeball the rocks.

We have spent the rest of the day on Tresco, in the amazing Abbey Gardens and walking around the island, including the Ruin Beach Cafe which felt positively Caribbean (except for the occasional misting rain).  We got back to the boat about 1800, checked the weather forecast, and realised we need to go back to the mainland tomorrow to avoid a serious risk of being stuck here with way too much wind from the wrong direction. Which meant hauling the dinghy, outboard and (repaired) boarding steps on board, untangling the mooring line (bet it's tangled again by 7am tomorrow!), wolfing down huge amounts of beans on toast to remind our stomachs that our throats are not cut, and doing the passage plan to get us safely away from the IoS and back past Lands End to Newlyn.
